Henry Quinlan Named President of South Coast Improvement Company

Jan 12, 2022 | News

South Coast Improvement Company (SCIC), a design-build general contractor serving states in the eastern region of the United States from the Mississippi River to the Atlantic Ocean, recently promoted Henry Quinlan to president of the Marion, MA-based company. Quinlan takes over for his brother, SCIC Founder Tom Quinlan. Tom will remain on with the company in a business development and advisory role.

“Succession can be an unsettling time for a company, but in this case, Henry has been here for 20-plus years,” said Tom Quinlan. “That’s not to say Henry doesn’t bring a fresh vision for the company. During this transition, which began in the fall of 2021, Henry built a very strong team with hires from some of the largest GC/CM firms in the country.”

Added Tom, “As our jobs got larger, more complicated and we expanded geographically, I knew it was time for me to step aside and bring in the best construction minds we could hire. Being my brother, I have a level of trust in Henry that would be hard to duplicate. I am humbled by where South Coast Improvement is today and the longtime clients we have had. For me personally, it has been the ride of a lifetime. I feel fortunate to step back and know the company is on a great trajectory with our largest backlog ever and a full plate of high performing projects currently in progress.”

Tom Quinlan founded SCIC in 1997. Today, the company is recognized as a leader in Senior Living construction, counting many of the top 25 providers in the country as repeat clients. In addition to Senior Living, SCIC has seven projects in Massachusetts in the affordable housing sector, a market SCIC has targeted for growth.

In his role as president, Henry Quinlan will take over for Tom in the day-to-day running of the company. Additionally, he created a leadership team comprised of senior SCIC staff managers and executives to absorb his duties as chief operating officer.

“My leadership style is a little different than Tom’s in that I’m more of a systems guy. That’s where having a senior leadership team like ours will be a tremendous asset,” said Henry Quinlan. “My style greatly reflects my days as a football coach. Each day has a different focus and goal. This helps us to streamline many processes and meet and exceed client expectations.”

Quinlan earned his undergraduate degree at Susquehanna University and earned a master’s degree at Wagner College. In 2000, he began his career at SCIC. From 2004 to 2014, in addition to his work with SCIC, Henry was the head football coach at Old Rochester Regional High School in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts and later was an assistant with the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to lead South Coast Improvement,” said Henry Quinlan. “We have the best people here and everyone understands our goal. The goal is to deliver the client a professional, honest and transparent experience that is rooted in great communication. We strive for a consistent experience while always having the client’s best interest in mind.”

Henry Quinlan resides in Mattapoisett, MA with his wife Maureen, son Ryan and daughter Kelly.
