South Coast Improvement, Co. Wins $18M Project at Atria Merrimack

Nov 24, 2018 | News

South Coast Improvement Company (SCI), a design-build general contractor serving New England and the Mid-Atlantic states, recently was awarded a new construction/renovation project at Atria Merrimack Place senior living facility located at 85 Storey Road, Newburyport, Massachusetts. The Marion, Mass.-based company began work on the $18 MM project last month.

The new construction portion of the project consists of a 45,000-square-foot addition to create 45 apartments for the Life Guidance unit for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. Part of the renovation will include the conversion of two Life Guidance rooms in the existing facility into assisted living rooms. All the new and renovated rooms will receive all new mechanical, electrical and plumbing—the new assisted living rooms will receive new millwork as part of the kitchen area.

The project will also consist of renovation and, in some cases, relocation of a number of common areas and other existing rooms. That list includes the library, bar, bistro, health club/physical therapy room, salon/spa, office space and reception area.  All totaled, 65,000 square feet of space will undergo renovation.

“Projects in space like this require constant communication with management and staff as well as extreme attention to detail on the part of our team,” said Tom Quinlan, president of South Coast Improvement Company. “We have a very strong track record in this area both on previous projects at Atria facilities and other companies in the assisted living space. We’re looking forward to making this project at Atria Merrimack Place a positive experience for all with a superior end result.”

The project began in October 2018 and is slated for completion at the end of 2019.

The project architect is EGA Architects of Newburyport, MA. BLW Engineers of Littleton, MA will serve as the project engineers.

Atria-Merrimack Place is one of 190 communities owned and operated by Atria Senior Living. Those communities are spread out over 28 states and seven Canadian provinces.
