Fast or Good?

Why not both?

This month people are raving about the speed at which pharmaceutical companies developed a vaccine for the coronavirus. The more cynical among us might be thinking corners were cut to get this vaccine to market less than a year since the first reported case in the U.S.

Not here.

You see, we have developed our own reputation for doing high quality work with a reasonably quick turnaround. A prime example of that is our work with SouthCoast Health.

South Coast Improvement Company was the GC for six urgent care centers (Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Fall River, Lakeville and Seekonk, MA; as well as Middletown, RI). The buildout for the first few took about three months.

Now, the work for these was far from cookie-cutter. It included custom millwork, AD sliding door systems, new hospital grade air exchange system as well as other hospital grade finishes. South Coast Improvement also coordinated all low voltage / data requirements with the hospital’s data staff. The facility also had to meet the requirements of SouthCoast Health’s X-ray equipment as well as all of their fixturing requirements.

By the time we got to the third buildout, we had it down and could knock out an urgent care center within two months. All while maintaining the high level of work quality and sustaining work processes that made the client want to hire us for subsequent urgent care centers.

We are privileged here in New England to play host to some of the best and brightest in the field of healthcare and life sciences. So, I’m very hesitant to even suggest any corner cutting by those stepping up during the pandemic. What I do understand is being good at what you do and having extenuating circumstances require you to raise your game and having that bring out your absolute best. I truly believe that’s what we have seen with the speed that a vaccine has been brought to market in such a short amount of time—about half the “normal” amount of time.

That positive note seems like a good place to end this newsletter. We still have to do our part to fight this virus, but better days are ahead.
