Moby Dick Brewing Company
16 S Water St |
New Bedford, Massachusetts
Total Project Cost: $1.4 Million

South Coast Improvement finished the construction of the 6,000-square-foot Moby Dick Brewing Company pub and restaurant in June 2017. The brewery/bistro sits at the intersection of Union and Water streets in the City’s historic district, diagonally across the intersection from the New Bedford Whaling Museum.

Prior to construction, the facility was a blighted, underutilized, abandoned property in an area slated for revitalization. South Coast improvement gutted and transformed the property into a 10-barrel brewery operation with seating for 100 patrons in a bistro and bar area.

Playing on Herman Melville’s epic novel, the brewery features such frosty libations as lshm-ale Ale, Stove Boat Dry Irish Stout, and Simple Sailor American Lager. From a culinary standpoint, patrons can enjoy simple dishes with a local flair – including salt cod chowder, sweet potato and apple soup, and pan-seared scallops.

All work was coordinated with the City of New Bedford Historical Commission as well as with tenants occupying the second floor of the building.
